Melissa Malcolm, founder and therapist at NewCareCounseling

Hello and welcome! My name is Melissa, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist and Founder of NewCare Counselling. I hold a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology with distinction from the University of Waterloo.

I am a compassionate, insightful and skilled practitioner who values a collaborative approach. This means that I truly value your feedback on what is helping you progress in our work together so we can continue to adjust and find strategies that work best for you and your unique circumstances. I am passionate about anxiety management and couples counselling. I believe that our relationships with ourselves and others have a significant impact on every aspect of our lives, and improving these relationships is crucial to living a happy and peaceful life.

I also have a chronic illness myself, so I understand the unique challenges of having a chronic illness/pain, and the implications this has on our relationship with ourselves and our bodies. I am honoured to support clients through the range of emotions that come along with chronic illnesses and chronic pain, and finding a new sense of normal.

As an avid and lifelong learner, I use evidence-based approaches to help you reach your goals. I have received up-to-date training in the latest evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Gottman Methods Couples Therapy.

In my free time, I enjoy swimming, kayaking, rock climbing, playing Ringette in the winter months (I was a competitive athlete in my youth, but now just play for fun!), and spending quality time with family and friends. I look forward to connecting with you and starting the next step in your mental health journey!
